Does playback call an AI model?
No. It displays text at a selected speed, so it cannot test the real performance or availability of an API.
Token streaming speed simulator
See how AI answers feel at different token streaming speeds. Play the same text at different tokens/s to compare pacing and reading comfort. This free browser player needs no account and makes no model API call during playback. It is not a live benchmark of your account, network or hardware.
Guide: comparing AI streaming speeds
Choose a model and version, then play sample text or enter your own. Keep the text unchanged while varying speed. Side-by-side comparison makes differences in output pacing easier to see.
For an assumed output of exactly 200 tokens, steady streaming takes about 10, 4 or 2 seconds respectively: 200 divided by speed. These are arithmetic examples, excluding time to first token, transport and rendering. They are not benchmark scores.
Check the source and snapshot date inside the app before using model speed references. Output cost is estimated only when public pricing is available. This introduction does not duplicate a leaderboard that could become stale.
The player approximates one token as about four characters; it does not use each model’s tokenizer. Chinese, English and code can tokenize very differently. Do not use simulated duration to calculate a real bill.
Time to first token measures the wait before the first output token. Tokens/s describes the subsequent stream. Queueing, prompt length, reasoning and network conditions also affect the actual experience.
Typed text plays locally. Importing a public URL requires reading that page and may use a reader proxy when direct access fails. Do not import private URLs, access tokens or confidential material.
The working application is https://bubufu.com/tools/token-speed-simulator/ . This page explains the workflow and limitations; the app handles playback and comparison. No account detour or platform membership is required.
No. It displays text at a selected speed, so it cannot test the real performance or availability of an API.
Use identical source text, a matching start and the same browser window. Changing model families can clear a text pane; refill it before comparing.
No. Evaluate correctness, quality, price, time to first token and reliability on your own tasks. A reference snapshot does not predict your account or provider performance.
